A Russian Banya has long been an integral part, almost a stereotype of Russian culture. What makes it so popular among foreigners? After all, this is a place with an extremely high temperature, where people smack each other with special brooms and then pour icy water over themselves or jump into the snow! It does not seem that the Russian Banya is really good for health, especially for beginners. But do doctors agree with that? What effect does the Russian Banya and its closest neighbor, the Finnish sauna, have on the human body? We will try to reveal these questions in a new lesson for an intermediate level, and also we will offer recommendations for a safe visit to a Banya, discuss doctors’ opinion and different people’s experience.
